Hey everyone who doesn’t read this! Sorry for the delay in posting. Things have been crazy hectic for me these last few weeks. The good news is that I just finished my last semester of undergrad and I graduate this Saturday. Yipee!
Anywho, I wanted to share this artist with you that I learned about from a friend. Blackbird Blackbird (aka Mike Maramag) is what I can’t stop listening to. I recently purchased his LP Summer Heart, and it is on constant repeat in my car, apartment and pretty much everywhere else I go where I am allowed to impose my musical preferences upon people. This song, Hawaii, is by far my favorite off the LP. It’s swirling synth accompanied with the soft vocals are perfect for putting me in a state of utter musical nirvana. It may sound like an exaggeration, but I swear to you it is not! Have listen and let me know what you think!
Check out this Gold Panda remix of Lykke Li’s “Sadness is a Blessing” off of her album Wounded Rhymes. I’ve really been getting into both of these artists at the moment, and I love what happens when they combine powers! The remix adds a great beat to the song while maintaining the soft, sad vocals of the talented Lykke Li. If you like it, stream the track on Pitchfork or download it at RCRD LBL.
I’ve been trying my hand at portraiture recently. Richard Avedon has been a huge inspiration for me. If you haven’t seen his photographs, check out his website immediately. I especially love this shot of singer Marian Anderson. The composition and her expression are absolutely stunning. What other portrait photographers do you enjoy?
If you and I ever have a chance to chat about music, you will discover that I love to make music mixes perfect for late night driving. There is no better time to roll down the windows, feel that warm Texas wind, and blare the music. From time to time, I feel I should share with you my most recent late night driving jams. Right now, I can’t stop listening to Daft Punk’s “Face to Face.” I mean, when can you ever go wrong with Daft Punk? This is an oldie, but a goodie, off of their 2001 album Discovery. Give it a try on a late night drive and let me know what you think!
I can’t stop listening to this audible treat. Fleet Foxes is releasing a new album, Helplessness Blues, on May 3rd. I could not be more ecstatic. The track “Grown Ocean” is a promising single which perfectly displays this band’s folky sound complemented by rich harmonies. What do you think?
